Flint Richards, AJCA-NAJ Area Representative, reported on national news and events concerning the Jersey herd. The 2018 AJCA registration total showed Jerseys are faring very well in a tight dairy economy. In all, 132,166 registrations were processed for 4,950 different owners making it the second highest yearly total in breed history. Oregon ranks fourth in the nation for registrations with 10,180 animals registered in 2018. This amount accounts for 7.1% of three-year total registrations. The number of females on genomic test has more than doubled that of the previous year nation-wide. Over 105,000 animals were appraised for type traits. Richards also noted that the Oregon Jersey Breeders Association received a $1,291 check from the Jersey Journal through the state’s advertising contract.

Other exciting highlights Flint addressed were the Jersey-specific nutritional webinars released by NAJ. Richard thanked Oregon Jersey breeders for their hospitality as a host state for the pre-conference tour of the 21st International Jersey Conference.
