Vermont Junior Takes Champion Honors in Madison

The International Junior Jersey Show took place October 1 and 2, 2019, in Madison, Wis., with Jack Lomeo, Jr. of Sylvan Beach, N.Y., placing the 113 Registered Jerseys exhibited. He and his associate, Brent Walker, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, selected two bred and owned individuals as their Champions.

Megan Hill of Bristol, Vt., led her winning senior three-year-old cow, Four-Hills Velocity Gloriana, to Grand and Intermediate Champion honors on Wednesday. Reserve Grand Champion and Senior Champion laurels were given to Meadow Ridge Kasanova Sara, the first place four-year-old owned by Emma Anderson from Cumberland, Wis.

Senior Champions

Emma Anderson was on the halter of “Sara” when she took Senior Champion honors of the junior show. She stood in the spotlight with the first place five-year-old, Chilli Nitro Cabo-ET, who was tapped as Reserve Senior Champion for Grace Sauder from Tremont, Ill.

“For us today, the first place four-year-old [gets] the advantage over the first place five-year-old [because of] her intercept to her leg and snugness of rear udder attachment. She’s just a little longer all the way through,” explained Judge Lomeo during his reasons.

Receiving Honorable Mention Senior Champion honors was South Mountain Voltage Karly shown by Willow Voegtlen of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.

Intermediate Champions

The top senior three-year-olds were selected for Intermediate and Reserve Intermediate Champion honors. Megan Hill’s entry, Four-Hills Velocity Gloriana (pictured left), was named Intermediate Champion of the Junior Show. Associate Judge Brent Walker then tapped the second-place cow, DKG Ritzs Relentless Sugar, owned by Blake Greiwe of Sidney, Ohio, as Reserve Intermediate Champion.

When talking about this duo of bred and owned individuals, Judge Lomeo expressed, “For us today, there’s no denying this pair of senior threes. What a beautiful pair of cows!” When describing his Intermediate Champion he said, “This black, silky, dairy cow was way up in an extremely strong class, followed by the second place one. [These are] two outstanding cows.”

The nod for Honorable Mention was given to the first place yearling in milk, Valyrias Andreas Vavoom-ET, owned by Grace Fremstad of Westby, Wis.

Junior Champions

Townside Norman Kookie (right), the winning winter yearling heifer, was named the Junior Champion of the junior show for her owners Noah Bilz of Dorchester, Wis. Judge Lomeo said, “This winter yearling has balance, femininity and maturity. She walks on a beautiful set of feet and legs. She’s also a little cleaner through her head and neck, with just a little more style about it than this beautiful senior yearling we have in second.”

Reserve Junior Champion honors were given to Landree Fraley’s winning senior yearling, KCJF Andreas Cancun. It was her ability to walk more comfortably on her rear feet and legs which took her over the Honorable Mention entry, Unique HP Elizabeth-ET, owned by Dylan Ryan of Fond Du Lac, Wis.
