Hass-Acres is a REAP herd and has a total of 200 Jerseys as a member of AJCA. These cows are housed in Evansville, Wis., and their milk is shipped to Decauter Dairy in Brodhead Wis. The family has updated the facilities to ensure the best quality product is produced. Their milking is done in a barn that was built in the 1800s. All the stanchions have been replaced with 20 headlocks and the cow’s comfort is top priority and will change depending on weather. In harsh conditions, they are housed in a bedded pack building and enjoy the hillside pasture in the spring, summer, and winter. The current milking cows are all scored between Very Good and Excellent-94%.
Hass-Acres LLC has high standards when it comes to the quality of their cattle. Their bulls must be +10 for JUI or higher and plus percent for fat and protein. They must also have a favorable pedigree either through appraisal or their familylines. These high standards are the reason for the success of their cows.
After reducing the number of Holsteins on their farm, they are now focused on building the herd back better and stronger in hopes of becoming a destination for A.I. studs and also show enthusiasts. It is obvious that breeding is the farm’s top priority. They chose top sires and will use embryo transfer on the top genetics. Their success already shines through, as they bred the #1 type cow in the Holstein breed and have had four cows in the top 10 for type. They also had a cow with a national butterfat record. Hass-Acres LLC is determined to keep this success going. They want to continue to improve their herd and make new additions that will build their herd as a must-see for all.
