Getting to Know Annette and Her Owners
Homeridge T Annette made a splash during the 2021 show season. She was named Intermediate and Grand Champion of the International Junior Jersey Show, then went on to be named Reserve Supreme Champion of the junior show. “Annette” continued her time in the winner’s circle when she was named the National Jersey Jug Futurity winner of the 2021 All American Jersey Show. She was also one of very few Jug winners to be used as Intermediate Champion of the open show.
“Annette” is owned by the partnership of Kylie and Dawson Nickels, Travis Freson, Mandy Sell and Scott Stanford, Watertown, Wis.
Jersey Journal caught up with Mandy Sell to talk about “Annette’s” accolades.
What kind of preparation did it take before the National Jersey Jug?
Annette was bred to calve in July to be ready in time for the Jug. She did everything that was asked of her and came out ready with her game face on for the Jug!
When did you notice the potential for your Jug entry?
We always knew that “Annette” had the potential to be a great cow. When she calved with her first calf, we knew she was going to be special! After she was named Grand Champion of the International Junior Jersey show and Reserve Supreme Champion of the Junior show at World Dairy Expo the excitement escalated!
How did it feel to win the National Jersey Jug?
It was truly an awesome feeling; a dream come true and brought us all to tears. I wish you could bottle the feelings and open them up on a bad day! Although Jerseys are newer to me, Scott has been in the Jersey business for many many years, and it has been something that he has dreamed about for a long time!
Does your farm make entries for every heifer calf for the Jug, or just specific matings?
We usually enter almost all our calves, we don’t have that many, and as they get older, some are eliminated, or we continue to pay to hopefully participate in the Jug.
What entries are you looking forward exhibiting in the National Jersey Jug in the future?
We are super excited about “Annette’s” oldest daughter, Annette’s Oliver Alexa-P, she is entered for 2023, she will be selling in December, but we are still so excited to watch her show! She reminds us a lot of her mother! We also have a group of exciting young calves that we will enter for the 2024 jug, including a Tbone out of “Annette”, “Stand for the Anthem”!
