Meet the Jersey Lifetime Production Contest Winners
Thirteen cows owned by eight Jersey breeders from six states placed in the 2021 Leading Living Lifetime Production Contest sponsored by the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA). Winners were honored at the national Jersey organization’s annual meeting in Portland, Ore., in June 2022.
For the second consecutive year, 4W Pusher Lizzie, owned by Brittany Core, Salvisa, Ky., received the Ogston Trophy for lifetime milk production. GB Jade Diva of Woodmohr, owned by Woodmohr Jerseys, Bloomer, Wis., was honored with the High Lawn Trophy for lifetime fat production.
The 2021 Leading Living Lifetime Production Contest distinguishes cows alive as of December 31, 2021, who produced a minimum of 225,000 lbs. milk, 10,000 lbs. fat or 8,000 lbs. protein.
As a group, the top 10 in each category produced 252,719 lbs. milk,12,932 lbs. fat and 9,220 lbs. protein. Average daily production on these totals is 74.1 lbs. milk, 4.0 lbs. fat and 2.7 lbs. protein. A genetically diverse group, no two of the 13 cows represented in the top placings in each division are sired by the same bull.

“Lizzie” came to Keightley-Core Jersey Farm as a springing heifer in March 2008 and kicked off her milking career with a 15,000 lbs. milk record at 2-0. She produced two lactations over 19,000 lbs. milk and then another nine consecutive records over 23,000 lbs. milk. She made her top record of 28,820 lbs. milk, 1,316 lbs. fat and 999 lbs. protein at 11-11. The 16-year-old last calved in July 2020 with a heifer calf, KCJF Joel Lizette, and completed a 305-day record of 23,160 lbs. milk, 875 lbs. fat and 803 lbs. protein at 14-3.
“Lizzie” made her first appearance among the top 10 in the lifetime production contest in 2018 and moved up in the rankings each year thereafter. The matriarch is still contributing to the bulk tank at Keightley-Core Jersey Farm and has three other registered daughters.

“Belle” has placed in the lifetime production contest longer than any other matriarch in the current rankings, making her debut among the top 10 for milk and fat in 2017 and then for all measures of production each year thereafter.
The milk wagon has the second highest daily milk production of this year’s leaders at 84.6 lbs. Ten of her 12 lactations are over 20,000 lbs. milk. She made her top fat record of 24,760 lbs. milk, 1,201 lbs. fat and 875 lbs. protein at 6-2 and then followed that lactation with her top milk record of 26,320 lbs. milk, 1,151 lbs. fat and 892 lbs. protein at 7-7.
She last calved in October 2020 with a heifer, Bolle-Acres Magician Belle, and made a record ranked among the top 20 in the herd for 2021 (15-1 305 3x 21,950 4.7% 1,030 3.4% 750 90DCR). She will turn 17 years old in mid-August and is still milking, giving 37.2 lbs. milk for the tester in March 2022 at 522 days fresh.
“Belle” has four registered daughters and numerous other descendants in the herd, many top producers like her.

“Diva” is from a cow family that transmits longevity. Her dam, MJ Candy DC Godiva, Excellent-95%, placed numerous times in lifetime production contests sponsored by the Wisconsin Jersey Breeders Association. Both “Diva” and her full sister, Woodmohr Jade Lady Diva-ET, Excellent-94%, placed in the AJCA lifetime production contest in 2019. Two other maternal sisters qualified for the contest.
Though no longer milking, “Diva” continues to graze the pastures at Woodmohr Jerseys and will celebrate her 18th birthday in October 2022. She has eight complete lactations—seven of them over 1,000 lbs. fat. She made her best records mid-life, with 23,100 lbs. milk, 1,426 lbs. fat (6.2%) and 821 lbs. protein (3.6%) at 7-7 and 22,890 lbs. milk, 1,430 lbs. fat (6.2%) and 853 lbs. protein (3.7%) at 8-9.

“Blair J5440 {4}-P” returns to the rankings in the lifetime production contest for the second time, moving up from 10th in the milk division last year. She is a poster child for Jersey efficiency. She freshened with her first calf in March 2010 at 1-9 and with her 12th calf in November 2021 at 13-6. “Blair J5440 {4}-P” turned 14 years-of-age in May 2022 and has an actual projected 305-day record of 16,647 lbs. milk, 742 lbs. fat and 608 lbs. protein. Her average daily production across all lactations through December 2021 is 71.3 lbs. milk, 2.7 lbs. fat and 2.5 lbs. protein.
She made top records of 27,180 lbs. milk, 1,049 lbs. fat and 960 lbs. protein at 7-7 and 24,970 lbs. milk, 925 lbs. fat and 840 lbs. protein two years later. She has four registered daughters.
“Blair J5440 {4}-P” is in good company among the 1,725 cows at Yosemite Jersey Dairy, which has milked its share of long-lived matriarchs over the years. Also ranking in this year’s contest is herdmate, Yosemite S Forces Kwatt N20320 (listed below). Yosemite had three top-ranked cows in last year’s contest and four in the 2019 contest.

Another model of efficiency and profitability, she calved at 1-8 for the first time and completed her 10th lactation before her 12th birthday. She gave 17,840 lbs. milk, 811 lbs. fat and 566 lbs. protein in her first lactation and was appraised Desirable-79% as a two-year-old. She completed a top record of 32,580 lbs. milk, 1,827 lbs. fat and 1,139 lbs. protein at 5-8 and was appraised Excellent-90% as a six-year-old. Outside her first lactation, all exceed 21,000 lbs. milk and seven exceed 24,000 lbs. milk. Her average daily production is 77.3 lbs. milk, 3.8 lbs. fat and 2.7 lbs. protein.
Though she is no longer in the herd, “Spree 3850” has four registered daughters and other descendants in the herd at Wickstrom Jersey Farms.

Vivianne” may be better known outside production circles as being one of the most recent cows to be appraised Excellent-96%, a distinction held by just 42 cows in Jersey history. She is also known for her lineage, which includes her world-famous grandam, Huronia Centurion Veronica 20J, 2004 National Grand Champion and winner of the 2015 Jersey Journal Great Cow Contest.
The Herringtons purchased “Vivianne” privately from the Lambs as a heifer calf after they had purchased her full sister, Oakfield TBone Vanessa-ET, as a choice in the Oakfield Corners Spring Sensation Sale in 2009.
“Vivianne” has stood on her own merit though, ranking in the lifetime production contest for the first time this year with daily production of 75 lbs. milk, 3.9 lbs. fat and 3.0 lbs. protein across seven lactations. She freshened with her eighth natural calf in October 2021 and gave 132 lbs. milk on her November test. She had another four tests over 100 lbs. milk and is projected to make an actual 305-day record of 30,135 lbs. milk, 1,659 lbs. fat and 1,135 lbs. protein at 11-10.
She calved for the first time at 2-3 and made 18,850 lbs. milk, 880 lbs. fat and 699 lbs. protein in her first lactation. “Vivianne” has a top record of 5-10 304 30,110 5.3% 1,594 3.7% 1,111 97DCR. She is in the donor dam program at Kevetta Farms and has 64 registered progeny to date and numerous other descendants. A daughter, Kevetta Applejack Vegas, is following in her footsteps, appraised Excellent-94%, with records to 26,000 lbs. milk.

“Kwatt N20320” is making her debut in the lifetime production contest this year. Like her herdmates at Yosemite, she earned a stay in the herd and turned the ripe age of 12 in March 2022 by proving her worth as a problem free, productive cow. As a first-calf heifer at 1-9, she made 16,200 lbs. milk, 743 lbs. fat and 561 lbs. protein and was appraised Desirable-72%. She bred back on schedule and came into her own the next lactation. She made 21,720 lbs. milk, 1,019 lbs. fat and 780 lbs. protein at 2-9 and was raised to Desirable-78%. She received her final score of 83 points at 4-0 and made a top record of 27,060 lbs. milk, 1,254 lbs. fat and 928 lbs. protein at 7-8. Six of her 10 complete lactations are over 20,000 lbs. milk.
“Kwatt N20320” freshened with her 11th calf in December 2021. She peaked with 99 lbs. milk in February and is projected to 21,624 lbs. milk, 846 lbs. fat and 780 lbs. protein actual at 11-9.
She has also been an equity builder in the heifer calf department, with seven, natural birth daughters.

Another newcomer to the top rankings, “JX Diceon {4}” has the distinction of being the matriarch with the highest daily production—91.8 lbs. milk, 5.6 lbs. fat and 3.2 lbs. protein—across seven lactations.
In a herd where it is hard to stand out, she has proven her worth with consistent, high production year after year. Three of her lactations are over 29,000 lbs. milk, 1,600 lbs. fat and 1,000 lbs. protein. Her 6-4 record of 30,990 lbs. milk, 2,482 lbs. fat (8.0%) and 1,002 lbs. protein ranks second on the National Class Leader list for fat yield by cows 5-9 years-of-age.
“JX Diceon {4}” last calved in November 2020 and gave 45 lbs. milk on her February 2022 test. Luck has been on the side of her owners, the Herron family, as she has five, natural birth daughters.
Five members of the milking string at Cold Run Jerseys rank in this year’s lifetime production contest. Cold Run Jerseys ranks seventh in the nation for lactation average (m.e.) this year (23,330 lbs. milk, 1,200 lbs. fat and 878 lbs. protein on 198 cows) and was the top herd for fat in 2018 and 2019. The herd boasts an impressive average final score of 86.3% as well, with 90 Excellent and 146 Very Good cows.

The winner of the past two lifetime production contests sponsored by the Wisconsin Jersey Breeders Association, “Erotica,” joins the list of national leaders this year.
Like many of the matriarchs, she has aged like fine wine. She made 14,150 lbs. milk, 740 lbs. fat and 592 lbs. protein in her first lactation as a milking yearling and was appraised Desirable-79% at two years-of-age. Yield increased with each lactation, along with final score. She was appraised Excellent-92% at 6-11 and made her top record of 26,010 lbs. milk, 1,316 lbs. fat and 1,020 lbs. protein at 8-6. She freshened with her ninth calf in April 2021 and completed a 305-day record of 25,780 lbs. milk, 1,380 lbs. fat and 999 lbs. protein at 11-1. She was still giving 98 lbs. milk for the tester in March and April 2022 as an extended record and had 76 lbs. milk on her most recent test in May. Her daily production across nine lactations is 64.8 lbs. milk, 3.5 lbs. fat and 2.6 lbs. protein. She has five, natural birth daughters.
“Erotica” is out of one of the foundation cow families at Lost Elm Jerseys. She is out of Excellence of Lost Elm-ET, Excellent-90%, an embryo that Luttropp purchased at the Top of the World Sale about 20 years ago. Her dam is Hollylane Rene Esmeralda, EX 93-4E (CAN), a former Canadian fat and protein champion who was also named Reserve All-Canadian Senior Two-Year-Old in 1995.

She is still helping to pay the bills at Cold Run Jerseys and gave 50 lbs. milk on her May 2022 test. It is not surprising she earned a top ranking in the contest as this production standout has six completed lactations—five over 22,400 lbs. milk and two over 31,900 lbs. milk—with tests to 6.2% fat and 4.2% protein. She made her best record of 33,370 lbs. milk, 2,069
“Candi” freshened with her seventh calf and first heifer, Cold Run Lonestar Celia, in December 2021. She peaked coming out of the gates with 115 lbs. milk two weeks fresh and gave 61 lbs. on her May test. She has an actual projected record of 21,151 lbs. milk, 1,082 lbs. fat and 768 lbs. protein at 8-11.
2022 Lifetime Production Contest
Entries for the 2022 Leading Living Lifetime Production Contest are due March 1, 2023. Cows alive as of December 31, 2022, are eligible. Minimum DHIR production levels for nomination are 225,000 lbs. milk, 10,000 lbs. fat and 8,000 lbs. protein.
