Michigan Meeting 2019

The Michigan Jersey Cattle Club (MJCC) held its annual meeting on February 9, 2019, at the Bavarian Inn Conference Center in Frankenmuth. Primarily business in nature, the meeting was held in conjunction with the Great Lakes Regional Dairy Conference.

Members heard about national Jersey activities from Greg Lavan, area representative for the American Jersey Cattle Association and National All-Jersey Inc. Record milestones for the breed in 2018 included 49,067 genotyped females. A second-high mark of 132,166 animals were registered by 4,950 different owners. More than 105,000 animals were appraised through the linear type traits program and more than 550,600 JerseyTags were sold.

Melissa Hart, editor of the Michigan Dairy Cattle News, gave a report on the magazine. She thanked contract advertisers for their support and asked Jersey members for breed history materials for use in writing a Jersey history article for each issue.

Members discussed the possibility of establishing a paid executive secretary position for the MJCC, with responsibilities for the futurity, membership dues, mailings and finances. The executive committee will explore options and present its findings to the board.

The MJCC summer picnic will be held in conjunction with the summer show.
