Jersey Production Champions Honored at Annual Meetings
Four Registered Jersey cows were honored for outstanding production achievements at the Annual Meetings of the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) and National All-Jersey Inc. in Portland, Ore., on June 24, 2022.
Lifetime Production Contest
For the second consecutive year, 4W Pusher Lizzie, owned by Brittany Core, Salvisa, Ky., received the Ogston Trophy for lifetime milk production. This year, she also earned the Edyvean Farm Trophy for lifetime protein production. the Excellent-94% daughter of 4W Golden Pusher has lifetime totals of 336,012 lbs. milk, 14,558 lbs. fat and 11,975 lbs. protein in 4,418 days. “Lizzie” was bred by James N. Wright Jr., Russellville, Ky.
GB Jade Diva of Woodmohr, owned by Woodmohr Jerseys, Bloomer, Wis., was honored with the High Lawn Trophy for lifetime fat production. “Diva” made 262,626 lbs. milk, 16,555 lbs. fat and 9,797 lbs. protein in 4,655 days. The Excellent-95% daughter of Giprat Belles Jade-ET was bred by Jeffrey B. Mallery of Shafer, Minn.
The 2021 Leading Living Lifetime Production Contest distinguishes cows alive as of December 31, 2021, who produced a minimum of 225,000 lbs. milk, 10,000 lbs. fat or 8,000 lbs. protein. This year, 13 cows qualified. As a group, the top 10 in each category produced 252,719 lbs. milk,12,932 lbs. fat and 9,220 lbs. protein. Average daily production on these totals is 74.1 lbs. milk, 4.0 lbs. fat and 2.7 lbs. protein.

President’s Trophy and Hilmar Cheese Yield Trophy
Two other cows were recognized at the annual meeting for production in a single lactation and completed during 2021. JX MM Harris 2770 {5}, bred and owned by Misty Meadow Dairy, Tillamook, Ore., received the President’s Trophy for the top record based on mature equivalent (m.e.) protein yield. Sired by JX Schultz Volcano Harris {4}, she produced a 2-6 record with an m.e. of 32,260—1,543—1,321 to earn the award. Actual production is 25,650 lbs. milk, 1,237 lbs. fat and 1,063 lbs. protein, with tests of 4.8% fat and 4.1% protein.
JX Cinnamon Ridge Badger Elle {4} won the Hilmar Cheese Yield Trophy for production based on actual cheese yield. Bred and owned by Kara Alice Maxwell of Cinnamon Ridge Jerseys, Donahue, Iowa, the Very Good-82% daughter of JX Faria Brothers Badger {3} produced a record with a cheese yield equivalent of 4,526 lbs. Other measures of the 4-2 record are 34,690 lbs. milk, 1,696 lbs. fat (4.9%) and 1,308 lbs. protein (3.8%). The record ranks for protein and cheese yield production among junior four-year-olds on the current National Class Leader list.
Other Production Awards
Cows are recognized for production achievements at other times during the year as well.
Herd owners enrolled on AJCA programs, including REAP (registration, Equity, appraisal and performance) and Total Performance Evaluation (TPE)-Plus, are notified of cows completing Hall of Fame records on a quarterly basis. Hall of Fame is awarded for actual cheese production of 150% of the previous year’s breed average for actual cheese production. The qualifying minimum for 2022 awards is 3,402 lbs. cheese yield (150% of the actual breed average of 2,268 lbs.).
Cows completing Honor Roll records are announced as well. Honor Roll is awarded for m.e. cheese production of 150% of the previous year’s breed average for actual cheese production.
Cows enrolled on these AJCA performance programs are also eligible for inclusion on the list of National Class Leaders and All-Time Breed Records. These lists are published annually on the AJCA website and in the Jersey Journal. The National Class Leaders list is the top 10 305-day records for milk, fat, protein and cheese yield based on age. The All-Time Breed Records list is the top 25 records of no more than 365 days for milk, fat, protein and cheese yield. Links for both can be found here.
To qualify for these recognitions, all cows must have Herd Register or Generation Count {4}, {5} or {6} status.
