Decade Creates History and Tremendous Growth for Registrations

With two decades of the 21st century now complete, the growth of the Jersey breed is obvious. 2019 was an excellent example of the growth with its 132,318 registrations, which set the new record for the second most registrations in a single year.

“Without question, this has been the decade of the Jersey breed,” said AJCA-NAJ Executive Secretary Neal Smith. “We’ve grown tremendously throughout the entire decade. It showed the strongest rate of growth in the history of the breed and organization.”

With the turn of the decade, it prompts us to reflect on the past ten years. 2019 made for the third consecutive year of over 130,000 registrations and eighth of over 100,000. This tremendous growth can be credited to the Jersey’s ability to produce high quality and high component milk more efficiently and cost effectively for her owners.

As we turn into a new decade, Jersey breeders throughout the world are seeing and spreading the word about the benefits of the breed and her ability to support a profitable business. The Jersey has helped pave a path for producers through a trying dairy economy in recent years, but continues to show them a bright future.
